Sponge: Leadership Lessons I Learnt from My Cli...

Veteran adman and author Ambi Parameswaran has relied on one process of learning above all others: powerful conversations with clients and customers. A challenging customer, in his view, goes from being someone who poses an obstacle to quality work to someone with eye-opening ideas and concepts. Approached as an exercise in listening and learning, these conversations can become long-term lessons.  Ambi has worked with some of the most respected brands and names in the Indian corporate world, and each of those assignments were for him masterclasses in leadership development. In this book, Ambi recounts conversations with some of the most iconic business leaders, such as Ratan Tata, Azim Premji, S. Ramadorai, Karsanbhai Patel, M. Damodaran, Dr V. Kurien and many others. He soaked up these conversations, in his own words, 'like a sponge’.  This book is an attempt to walk us through some of those dialogues - both the illuminating and the difficult aspects of them - to help us understand how they were learning sessions. For anyone looking at turbocharging their business and career, the ‘Sponge Process’ that emphasises listening is a radical new way of engaging with clients and customers. 1. Language: English. India might have not scaled up the list of the world's most developed nations, but it definitely has produced some of the finest and most successful business minds. The country is home to thousands of millionaires, most of whom are business tycoons. The Ambani brothers- Mukesh and Anil, Ratan Tata, Vijay Mallya, KiranMazumdar Shaw, and Deepak Parekh are few of the many famous entrepreneurs produced by the country. Their business empires are not just confined to India, but are spread across different continents. However, we should not forget that Globalization did play a significant role in the financial growth of these individuals. They are also credited for having reduced the employment woes of the youth to a certain extent, by opening plenty of doors for the average 'well-educated, yet unemployed' man through their firms. The successes of these individuals have started a new wave of entrepreneurship in India. This is a positive change in a nation which has otherwise been heavily dependent on government jobs for decades. On the whole this book mainly emphasizes on the successful journeys of business tycoons in India.

Cell Death and Diseases of the Nervous System

It is an honor to be asked to write a foreword for this timely book, which assembles contributions from authorities working in the area of pathological nervous system cell death, and has been expertly edited by Vassilis Koliatsos and Rajiv Ratan. That the inap propriate demise of brain or spinal cord cells is at the root of many neurological diseases has been appreciated since the early days of microscopic neuropathology, but it has only been in the last decade or so that pervasive therapeutic nihilism has lifted. In the journey of medical progress, we have reached the shores of a marvelous new land. Three major scientific thrusts in particular have converged to produce the press of ideas covered here. First, burgeoning information about the fundamental nature of central nervous system cell--(,ell signaling, both the fast signaling mediated by conventional neu rotransmitters and the usually slower signaling mediated by neuromodulators and growth factors. A central theme emerging in recent years has been the duality of these signaling mechanisms, which serve the nervous system in health, but which can become the very mediators of neuronal or glial cell degeneration in disease settings. Glutamate-mediated neurotransmission and excitotoxicity have been the defining and best-studied examples, but many other examples have also emerged. Second, delineation of the molecular under pinnings of programmed cell death, and an appreciation of their awesome power.
